A father in Port St. Lucie, Florida figured his 5-month-old daughter was getting too old to suck her thumb, so he did what no caring dad would: he broke the digit so she wouldn't suck it.
When the girl's mother noticed the swollen thumb Monday, Orane Gowans reportedly told her it was probably from a bug bite, and not to take her to the doctor, WPBF-TV reports.
The concerned mother ignored the advice, and an x-Ray revealed multiple thumb fractures. Gowans was arrested on a child abuse charge.
