1963 - Bob Dylan played a show at Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. The set included his new song, “Masters of War.”

1965 - The Animals were forced to cancel a show at New York’s Apollo Theater by the U.S. Immigration Department. Unfazed, the band performed on The Ed Sullivan Show instead.

1965 - Two-thousand fans greeted The Rolling Stones when they touched down in Australia for a tour with supporting act Roy Orbison.

1966 - George Harrison married Patti Boyd in Epson, England, with Paul McCartney and manager Brian Epstein serving as his best men.  Boyd later left Harrison for guitarist Eric Clapton.

1972 - Don McLean’s “American Pie” was the No. 1 song. Clocking in at 8 and a half minutes, the song was too long to fit on one side of a single, and so was split in half for release as a 45.

1979 – After the death of their son Karac in 1977, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, and wife Maureen, welcomed son Logan in 1979.

1987 - Roy Orbison, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin and Jackie Wilson were inducted into the Rock and Roll Halll of Fame.

1989 - Phil Collins charted his seventh US No. 1 single with “Two Hearts.”

1997 - Col. Tom Parker, the music industry legend who helped Elvis Presley become a music legend, died in Las Vegas at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke.
